FoodStart gains new backing

Levi Roots is the latest celebrity to speak out in support of the IFST’s FoodStart initiative – a free online service launched to address the serious skills shortage currently facing the UK food and drink industry.

The musician turned businessman, and the brains behind the Reggae Reggae sauce range, has praised the project for its determination to plug the food industry skills gap.

“FoodStart is a fantastic idea,” says Roots. “I believe that it’s never been more important for those of us in the food and drink world to help secure its future by offering support to youngsters considering a career in the industry.

“The potential skills shortage is a very real concern, so anything we can do to highlight and address the issue has got to be a good thing.”

FoodStart allows employers to advertise their work experience placements free of charge. Students can then browse and apply for the advertised positions, while building a portfolio of their achievements.
