Ready for action
Four motion-controlled high speed tray sealing machines have increased the efficiency of the ready meal packing line at UK firm Pro-Pak Foods, who serve Britain’s major retailers and brands with their range of ready meals.
Pro-Pak says it used Packaging Automation’s (PA) test kitchen facility to carry out extensive gas trials, which lead to a new opportunity for them to supply the ready meal market.
Due to the wide product range, product changeovers happen several times a day and previously took 45 minutes per product due to tool changeover time. With Packaging Automation’s machines, Pro-Pak says tool changeovers take just 2 minutes, therefore massively increasing the efficiency and eliminating critical downtime on the production line.
Featuring Powerdrive technology, PA’s tray machines are fully electric and operate without using any compressed air, therefore offering savings on the running costs of conventional pneumatically operated tray sealers.
“We had looked at other tray sealer suppliers and quickly decided that both Pro-Pak Foods and PA could have an excellent working partnership going forward,” says Steve Caulton, factory manager at Pro-Pak Foods. “This particular model met all our requirements, being user friendly, having zero air consumption and being compatible in our production hall.”
