“A typical day provides an opportunity to make a difference”

Manufacturers must find ways to reduce waste and fine tune production efficiency, whilst retaining product quality and a focus on consumer safety, in order to maintain competitiveness and profitability, says Martyn Gill, general manager – EMEA at InfinityQS.

Describe yourself in three words.

Driven, ambitious, honest.

What’s your biggest professional achievement?

Winning the UK Engineering Excellence Award in 2007.

How did you get to where you are today?

Dedication to my role and setting personal goals.

What does a typical day look like for you?

An opportunity to make a difference.

What have been the highlights of your company’s history, in your opinion?

The exponential growth of InfinityQS over the last 15 years has been inspiring and driven by a client focused mentality. It not only demonstrates our commitment to enterprise wide quality, but also our ability to win prestigious deals that help leading food and beverage manufacturers continue to produce high quality products.

My personal highlight was being invited to join such a forward thinking organisation, combined with the mouth watering prospect to replicate its success in North America and China for EMEA.

What is your pet hate?

Lack of transparency in discussion.

Give us a positive prediction for the food industry over the next 12 months.

It’s definitely a growing market. However, to maintain competitiveness and profitability, food and beverage manufacturers must find ways to reduce waste and fine tune production efficiency, whilst retaining product quality and a focus on consumer safety.

What do you consider to be the most important attributes for a leader?

Good listener, compassionate and trustworthy.

Who do you most admire?

Mike Lyle (our CEO) is definitely one person I admire. Long before I joined InfinityQS, I saw the vision and innovation he brought to the manufacturing industry. And now, knowing what he has achieved with the company whilst competing in a largely saturated market – without so much as a penny of bank debt – it’s simply incredible.

Which people/organisations or companies are the ones to watch right now?

Coca Cola and PepsiCo are making great strides in strengthening their position further.

Which words do you most overuse?

Preventative, capitulate, hope, sustain.

If you weren’t in your current position, what else might you be doing?

A chef.

Tell us something about yourself that few people know.

I am a passionate individual with the need to have goals. A goal is the achievement; passion is how I get there.

Any vices?

None that come to mind.

What single thing would most improve the quality of your life?

Spending time with my family is always precious and something that is very important to me.

How do you relax?

I rarely do. If I am not busy, then my perception is that I am not making the most of my life. The only time I really relax is when I am on holiday with my family – albeit even then I am doing something.

How would you like to be remembered?

As an honest, hard working person with a record of success and someone who can be called upon when times get tough.
